Special Educational Needs

SEND at Orchard Vale

At Orchard Vale, we are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all our students, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our approach is centred around the following key principles:

Inclusive Classroom Environment

We design our classrooms to be flexible and accommodating, ensuring that every student can thrive. Learning environments are accessible, inclusive and create a sense of belonging and safety. This is essential for equity, social integration and overall wellbeing.

Adaptive Teaching Strategies

All members of staff use adaptive teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of our pupils. All staff have high expectations for all pupils, regardless of their starting points and any challenges they may face. Teachers understand the needs of the learners in their classroom and specifically plan and adapt their lessons accordingly.

Early identification and Support

We prioritise early identification of SEND to provide timely and effective support. Our SEND register is regularly updated to reflect the needs of our students, ensuring that they receive the appropriate resources and interventions. My Plans are reviewed regularly to ensure suitable provision is in place.

Professional Development

We invest in continuous professional development for our staff, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to support SEND pupils effectively. This includes training on the SEND Code of Practice and safeguarding.

Social and Emotional Wellbeing

We understand the importance of social and emotional support for SEND pupils. Our school offers pastoral support, we work alongside the MHST service and we ensure we foster a culture of empathy and respect. Our school uses a relational behaviour approach for all pupils.

Collaborative Approach

We believe in the power of collaboration. Our teachers, parents, and specialists work together to create a comprehensive support system for our SEND pupils, ensuring their needs are met both academically and emotionally.

At Orchard Vale Community School, every pupil matters. We are dedicated to providing an inclusive education that empowers all our pupils.

If you have concerns then please speak to your child's class teacher. If you would like to liaise with the SENDCO please email orchardvale@ventrus.org.uk FAO Mrs Day.
