How to help at home
Homework
Children will receive a homework task sheet for each term, alongside a knowledge organiser.
Children will be informally tested on their knowledge and facts from their knowledge organiser weekly and will be told which section to revise for the week ahead.
Homework tasks can be handed in via Teams or on paper - we love to display work in the classroom! Children will be rewarded with stars/dojos to celebrate their hard work.
Years 1 & 2 - Every Friday, children will be tested on their spellings.
Years 3 & 4 - Every Friday, children will be tested on their spellings. They will also have their soundcheck score recorded from Times Tables Rockstars. Alongside this, they complete their Times Tables Safari in which they have 5 minutes (year 3) or 3 minutes (year 4) to get every answer correct and move on. Children are sent new spellings every Friday via Teams.
Years 5 & 6 - Spellings and times tables tests will be carried out each week in classes/learning groups.
Read Write Inc (RWI)
Reception and Years 1 & 2 - Your child will be assessed and placed into a RWI group (Reading group). Your child will come home with a book each night for you to work on together; it is the same book we will be working on in school. This book needs to be returned each morning in the pack provided; please take great care with these resources as they are very precious!
Unreturned/lost books will be charged for and payment can be made through Arbor Pay.
Your class teacher will provide you with information on RWI and how you can help and support your child at home; please look out for updates on Teams.
Years 3 & 4 - Children who are continuing with the Read Write Inc programme will be provided with a book on Friday. This is to be returned to school the following Thursday. All children are expected to read daily for a minimum of 20 minutes.
Reading Books
Children are encouraged to read for 20 minutes per night and record these on their High-Flying Reader sheet. Once they have read for a certain number of nights, they earn rewards and appear on the Reading Road/Intergalactic Reading Challenge/Tri-Reading Tournament and are celebrated on the newsletter.
Years 3/4 - If your child is an independent reader, then they have access to age-appropriate texts within their classroom book corner. These are to be changed when completed.
Please note we will only issue a new reading book once the old one has been returned. Please encourage children to respect these books and return them on time.
Years 5 & 6 - Please encourage your child to read, at home, for a minimum of 30 minutes each day. This can then be recorded on their Tri-reading Tournament log in their homework book.
