Year 6 - Exmoor Challenge walk

28th February 2020

Dear Parent/Carer

Exmoor Challenge 2020

In 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019, we entered teams to take part in the Exmoor Challenge.  The Challenge entails children following a 16 mile, unmarked route using instructions, map reading and compass skills.  There are a series of check points along the route and each leg has to be completed within a pre-determined time.  This event is organised and run by the Rotary Club of Exmoor and the Exmoor Search and Rescue who provide marshals along the route.  The event raises sponsorship monies for The Children’s Hospice South West.  Our teams have all managed to complete the course successfully, with smiles on their faces.

This year we are entering three teams of four Year 6 children with 2 reserves.  The Challenge is on Saturday, 2nd May 2020.  The children have already taken part in local orienteering walks with Mr Magson and Mrs Harding so will understand the nature of the challenge and the skill set required to complete it.

We are only able to take 14 children on the final Challenge day.  Over the course of several more practice walks Mr Magson will assess the children and select the final team plus two reserves from those children who are selected to join the team.

The successful 14 children have completed the practice walks Mr Magson will assess which children 12 children will be put forward for the final Challenge.
